CISDE is fortunate to have highly qualified Workshop Leaders in many states and as far away as Argentina, South Korea, British Columbia, and Suriname. These Workshop Leaders (sometimes referred to as Certified Trainers) are highly qualified to help teachers, administrators, and other educators learn about the materials produced at the foundation as well as to lead individual teachers, teacher teams, and others through a complete workshop experience.
Workshop Leaders are available in Alaska, Arizona, Washington, Maryland, Hawaii, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Texas, Colorado, Wisconsin, Missouri, and elsewhere. Most of the Leaders are available periodically throughout the year and are willing to travel to workshop locations. Previous workshops have been conducted in most U.S. states as well as in Finland, Estonia, South Korea, the South Pacific, Suriname, and Argentina. Two of the Leaders are fluent speakers of Spanish. One speaks English, Surinamese and Dutch.
One and two day Awareness Workshops are available which introduce the issue investigation model to educators. For teachers, faculties, and schools interested in implementing the model, five day IEEIA workshops are organized and delivered. The five day workshops can be organized around two weekends or one full week. The Workshop Leaders are skilled in following up with teachers after these workshops to help with the implementation process. And, if desired, the foundation's evaluation specialists can help assess the effectiveness of the program with middle and/or secondary school learners.
CISDE also has a Workshop Coordinator on its staff, Mr. Versil Withrow. He has taught the issue investigation curriculum to middle school students for over ten years and has organized and/or delivered a number of highly effective workshops. He also arranges and recruits for workshops in distant places such as Alaska and Hawaii. He can be contacted through CISDE or by email at: teachu@wabash.net .
Workshop costs are borne by the agency requesting the experience and include the leader's fees, transportation, per diem, and the costs associated with the instructional materials. The staff at CISDE (or Mr. Withrow) will be happy to discuss these costs with schools and other educational organizations.

Africa Workshop 2007
Dr. Trudi Volk and the CISDE staff are working to put together an ecology workshop for East Africa for the summer of '07. This would be a for-credit course, studying the savannah ecosystems of Tanzania. Minimum numbers for this course would be from about six to ten. The course would last approximately two weeks.
For those of you who have not been to Tanzania, it is far from being solely savannah. There are marshes, shallow lakes, riparian communities, forested areas, and places with high altitude ecosystems as well. We would be traveling with Mr. Msafiri Msury, one of the most respected guides in Tanzania. His knowledge of wildlife ecology is superb. And, he is a phenomenal birder and very patient with photographers. Some of the staff at CISDE know these things because they have been on safari with him.
For those of you who would like to see more photos of Tanzania, go to the fundraising photos and photo galleries sections of this web site.
Dates and costs are not yet finalized. However, if you want to learn more about Mr. Msury, feel free to call Dr. Harold Hungerford at CISDE (618 - 457-8927). If you would like to visit Mr. Msury's web site, go to: http://www.visittz.com/ or click here VisitTZ.com.
If you should want to organize a recreational safari or know of someone else who wants to do so, have them contact him directly. His email address is on his website. If you would like to organize a special Tanzanian credit workshop, contact the staff at CISDE.
